A WORD TO EDUCATORS
The Imagical Power of Etymology is designed to increase
students vocabulary and thus reading comprehension. The approach
is simple and fun, and not at all like learning Latin, which
is usually introduced in higher grades with a rather dry
approach. The roots listed in this workbook are of Latin
or Greek origin. It is not necessary to teach or have students
memorize where the roots came from. What is important is
for students to remember the meaning of the roots, and thus
the precise meaning of words.
This workbook serves as an introduction to the field of
Etymology. It provides educators a tool and springboard,
by which many other word derivations can be found by using
the glossary of roots, prefixes, and suffixes found at the
end of the book. Also included is a dictionary of dinosaur
roots, which is not exclusive to the physical characteristics
of dinosaurs, as these characteristics are found everywhere
in nature, and can be related to any organism. |
